Bio

Melbourne-based dream pop producer and self-described “chronic overthinker” KAIAR (formerly KAIA) rummages through layers of off-kilter beats and choppy vocal samples to find personal and objective truth. An experimentalist at heart, KAIAR’s predilection for the dissonant and chaotic ripples the otherwise serene surface of her textured, almost multisensory music.

Having previously left a staunch religious upbringing behind, KAIAR knew she had to manage her relationship with music carefully: “Because religion was strongly (probably subconsciously) associated to music for me, I distanced myself until I knew I could make it FOR me and ABOUT me.” The result is music that is bleedingly earnest and deeply affecting, that invites its listeners to feel at ease with vulnerability.

In 2017, KAIAR released her self-titled EP and single ‘Know Myself’ via Double J and FBi Radio Presenter Stuart Buchanan's independent label, Provenance Records to airplay and support from triple j, Double J, triple j Unearthed, FBi Radio, Triple R, RTRFM, 4ZZZ and more. Her dynamic and atmospheric live show has earned her support slots with the likes of Braille Face, Aphir, Estére (NZ), Telete, Bloom, Shoeb Ahmad, mara, and Blyolk.

it's gorgeous and lofty but it just needed one more big push for me.

What a huge leap in your sound in just 12 months time! This is mesmerising. Give me a moment while I just sink into this body of warm electronic goo you've produced.

This is absurdly special. There's more than a little Twigs about this and I love it. Your vocals go had to head with your production and it's hard to find a winner amongst such excellence.
