Bio

“Missed Call” is the wonderful new single from Melbourne via Perth, singer-songwriter
Kaitlin Keegan. A poignant song written about a close friend, Kaitlin builds the song slowly
from a lone strumming guitar before launching into the anthemic chorus. At the heart of it
all is Keegan’s striking voice, which immediately draws you in with its emotional warmth and matter-of-fact storytelling.

“At the core it's really about wanting to be there for your friend even though there’s a
massive distance between you both, physically and emotionally,” Keegan says. “I wrote the
song about one of my closest friends, but it relates to a lot of women in my life.”
This is the key to Keegan’s charm. She manages to find the universal in the everyday, telling a tale that is deeply personal, but also endlessly relatable, and setting the whole thing to a backdrop of shimmering folk pop. Listening to “Missed Call” it’s hard not to feel as though you’re being counselled by a friend over a cuppa.

Which is all part of her plan.
“Watching a lot of women getting stuck in damaging relationships that don’t serve them, it’s kinda hard to watch from the outside,” she says. “I want it to help others to be resilient in their attempts to be there for someone especially when they don’t want to hear you out."

To help her capture the emotional weight of the track, Kaitlin enlisted the help of producer
Anna Laverty (The Peep Tempel, Meg Mac, Loose Tooth), who she’d met at a writing camp
and instantly felt an affinity for. “After working with Anna at that camp I knew straight away I wanted to record new music with her,” Keegan says. “She made me feel super comfortable and confident about my ideas. We booked out a couple of days at Audrey Studios in Coburg and had the best time. Recording Missed Call was pretty emotional and she definitely got that and nurtured me through the whole process.”

“Missed Call” feels like the warm hug we all need right now.

Kaitlin was so arresting on Emma that I was ready for more of that slow, breathy emotionality powered by direct lyricism and hard hitting moments. She's come at this one differently, with a little more rhythm and energy but that same poignancy to the lyrics that'll rend your heart if you dare listen close enough.
