Artist:Karuna

Hailing from the historic bushranger hometown of Braidwood, NSW (population 1,108), Karuna is a producer DJ, vocalist and multi-instrumentalist who writes & operates from his home-studio, which he built with his own hands. Having spent much of his youth alternating between studying Buddhism in the mountains of his father’s native Nepal and quietly absorbing records, culture and more records in Braidwood, he has transmuted his experiences into song. Fuzzed-out guitar, instant hooks, razor-sharp percussive triggers and sweeping synthscapes are layered with melodic vocal lines that lie somewhere between the rhythms of hip hop, the urgency of youth and the hypnotics of dance. Karuna has created a genuinely unique sound that could be described as a collaboration between Beck, The Postal Service and Outkast for an upcoming remake of Bladerunner. It could be described this way, if you were into pigeon-holes, but Karuna would prefer it if you listen.
