Unearthed artists we like
Fresh indie tunes with catchy pop hooks are the signature style of emerging Brisbane artist Katanak. Known for his infectious indie pop groove-inducing earworms that fans of The 1975, Circa Waves and The Wombats will appreciate. Unforgettable hooks, fun vibes and raw energy is what Katanak is all about. He is building a reputation for creating indie pop songs that get the crowd on their feet and moving to the groove. Expect bouncy, upbeat vocals, optimistic guitar and rhythmic indie-pop beats.
Katanak catapulted into 2021 with the release of ‘Valentine’ and his indie pop ode to summer ‘Sunday (feat. Koolz)’. Between these two tracks he’s been played on Triple J Unearthed, Double J Radio, ABC Radio, BBC Introducing Radio Solent (UK), Amazing Radio (both UK & US) and 4ZZZ (and more) with Sunday’s video clip added to rotation on MTV Upload across Australia and New Zealand. Gathering praise from Auspop, LivewireAU and A&R Factory, Katanak is establishing himself as an exciting indie pop newcomer.
“This one is just a straight up good time! Kooks, San Cisco sorta vibes that'll have you moving no matter where you are.” 4/5 stars Dave Ruby Howe (Triple J)
“If Berocca was a song, it would be ’Sunday’.” LivewireAU
“I’m really liking the sound of Valentine.” Shell Zenner – Amazing Radio (UK)
His following has continued to grow with his People’s Choice Award win at QUBE Effect 2020 and he was a semi-finalist in the 2020 International Songwriting Competition and Katanak fulfiled his industry goal of working with ‘Magoo’ for his single ‘Pinch Grip’. With music “oozing the charm of a 90s boy band dipped in a delicious sugar-pop sound” (Music is my Muse), the young musician shows no sign of slowing down any time soon!
