Best known for his role as one third of the stargazing, rock n roll four piece, Baby, Kento Ami has been sitting on a body of solo work since as far back as 2014. Born in Tokyo and raised in Sydney, he has spent time in Japan and now calls the musical melting pot of Byron Bay his home. Beginning his love for the guitar at an early age, his musical influences include The Strokes, The Arctic Monkeys, Bob Marley and Hendrix.
His catalogue of releases to date includes 4 singles since his debut in (month)…. 2019, .’Thinking Cap’. The songs have been well received, reaching over 15K streams on Spotify and forming the basis for a cruisy summertime soundtrack for low key living throughout the 2020 lockdown.
His most recent single Avalon was released this April 27 and is a playful, ambling, acoustic ballad that bears reference to the likes of Paul Kelly as well as his obvious indie rock influences. Written and produced in Byron Bay with local friend Alaine de Carne the song is a remembrance of Kento’s youth in Avalon on Sydney’s Northern Beaches. He explains of the writing inspiration “I was missing the beach culture of the area and the nostalgia of my youth evoked a vibe for the song”
