Born in Taiwan, Kim is an acoustic songstress and an aspiring songwriter based in Canberra, Australia. Her soothing finger-picking and ethereal voice capture the attention of passers-by.
Inspired by female vocalists like Sarah McLachlan, Kina Grannis, First Aid Kit, and Eva Cassidy, Kim’s music is an eclectic blend of folk, pop and blues. Her songs speak from her experiences as a partner, a daughter, a traveller and an insecure soul. With Kim's ethereal blend of sounds, she creates music that balances delicately between vulnerability and power.
In 2016, driven by a desire to share her stories with the world, Kim picked up a ukulele and a guitar and she started writing songs. She stepped out of her bedroom and into the streets, markets and cafes of Canberra.
Kim recently performed at the National Folk Festival 2019, Enlighten Festival 2020 and Canberra Theatre Centre’s CTC@Home series during COVID. Kim’s actively involved in the ACT music community; she organised the International Women's Day Concert 2020, gathering female musicians of Canberra and the general public. Kim shares her musical talent with bands such as Muddy Wolfe and Iboga Gazebo. In 2019 Kim went on tour for her debut EP Ocean of Mind after a sold-out EP launch. She has also supported ARIA and APRA-awarded artists Tori Forsyth and Josh Pyke on their tours to Canberra.
Kim's first single of 2020 'Garden of Eden' and the DIY music video about her Australian black summer experience have been well-received by the public, this song has been aired on Triple J Roots n' All. Kim's latest single Dominoes was premiered on Triple J's Root's n All.

Breathe taking; I felt like Kim had grabbed me by the hand and carried me through an amazing secret garden. There is a stillness in this much like walking through a forest, aware of how small we are in comparison to nature. It's humbling. Kim Yang is a force of nature, and she humbles me.

Kim takes you on an evocative journey with this new track. It's tangled up in some pain and a yearning for solace - though the moody piano waves and plucking make for a soothing backing to Kim's vocal.
