Born in Taiwan, Kim is an acoustic songstress and an aspiring songwriter based in Canberra, Australia. Her soothing finger-picking and ethereal voice capture the attention of passers-by.

Inspired by female vocalists like Sarah McLachlan, Kina Grannis, First Aid Kit, and Eva Cassidy, Kim’s music is an eclectic blend of folk, pop and blues. Her songs speak from her experiences as a partner, a daughter, a traveller and an insecure soul. With Kim's ethereal blend of sounds, she creates music that balances delicately between vulnerability and power.

In 2019 Kim went on tour for her debut EP Ocean of Mind after a sold-out launch, she then played at the National Folk Festival 2019, Enlighten Festival 2020, Good Folk 2021 alongside Fanny Lumsden and StiffGins. Kim supported ARIA & APRA-awarded artists Tori Forsyth, Josh Pyke and Ben Lee on their tour to Canberra.

Kim's bushfire tribute Garden of Eden was aired on triple J radio and received 4.5 stars from Roots 'n All host, Nkechi Anele, who said: ‘Kim Yang is a force of nature, and she humbles me’. In late 2020 Kim released her latest single Dominoes which was premiered on triple J radio's Roots 'n’ All. Kim is set to release her 2nd EP 'Brave' in 2021, which is partially funded by ArtsACT.

Kim's latest single Fantasy is about longing for her parent’s love during hardships. Kim left her family and moved from Taiwan to Australia in 2012. Her family never really expressed love in a physical or verbal way. This was compounded when Kim travelled around the world, moved overseas, and again with COVID-19. Kim’s evocative lyrics and emotive vocals combine with bird songs, sombre cello, and dreamy keys to create a vulnerable soundscape that yearns for attention from her listeners.

Breathe taking; I felt like Kim had grabbed me by the hand and carried me through an amazing secret garden. There is a stillness in this much like walking through a forest, aware of how small we are in comparison to nature. It's humbling. Kim Yang is a force of nature, and she humbles me.

Kim takes you on an evocative journey with this new track. It's tangled up in some pain and a yearning for solace - though the moody piano waves and plucking make for a soothing backing to Kim's vocal.
