KIMBO live review By Celene Axford Kimbo, a vivacious upstart in Melbourne’s underground scene possesses a refreshingly original sound. A blend of aggressive punk diffused through an intense storytelling style. They gather on the stage of the Arthouse, watched avidly by their already growing cadre of fans. With no preamble to speak of, Kimbo kick into their first song. ‘Let me go’ plunges the listener into a booze-laced intensity of sound that retains a well-defined melody and structure which carries the listener along. As the set progresses Kimbo reveal themselves to be a band of diversity while adhering fervently to the unique sound they have created. Carried along by the warm gravelled tones of singer/guitarist, Jules, and punctuated by the strength and clarity of the bands lone female member, Anna, the band spins out tales of misdeeds and misadventures.
