Rising out of the fertile soil of Brisbane's West End, Kooii has nurtured a uniquely local sound that weaves musical influences from around the world. Kooii's music is a Meeting Place merging the vision and quiet intensity of Peter Hunt with a tight group of creative heavyweights that have grown to share that vision. With members responsible for such Brisbane institutions as Laneous and the Family Yah, Kafka, Ruby Blue and Oka, to name a few, these talented and experienced musicians create a unique groove that instantly becomes a favourite, catching ‘the rhythm of the listener’s step’ and reflecting their deep and honest appreciation of their craft. Having regularly played such festivals as Woodford, Island Vibe, Reggae Town and Kuranda Roots, the band began 2010 with a successful tour of New Zealand, where their uniquely Australian brand of reggae was a huge hit at venues and festivals across the country, including a main-stage performance at the Parihaka International Peace Festival. They continue a big year with the Spring release of their highly anticipated second album, "In This Life". Once again, the band have called upon the creative genius of engineer/ producer Paulie B (Beautiful Girls, George), the same collaboration that produced their landmark debut album "Beads on a String" (2005). Paulie has again produced the goods with "In This Life", capturing the driving rhythms, stirring harmonies and sublime lyricism that give Kooii its distinct flavour. Kooii's 'One Step' recently won the Blues/Roots 'Song of the Year' Award at the Queensland Music Awards 2012.
