LABJACD (say "Lab-Jacked") is a monster 9 piece band that's been working Australia's dance floors and festivals since 2005. Known for their powerful sound and a guns blazin' live set they have won loyal fans and respect wherever they've performed. Not pure hip-hop, not a straight funk band, not exactly world music, LABJACD's sound grew organically from the diverse backgrounds and experiences of its founding members. The three MC's who front the band are from a Chilean background, their families fleeing the nightmare of the Pinochet dictatorship during the 1970's and '80's. Parts of the show incorporate Andean music (including the use of traditional instruments) and the influence of latin styles such as salsa and cumbia can be felt throughout. The resulting sound is urban, rootsy and uncontrived; music that is genuinely of its time and place.
