Lara Buchanan is a year 9 singer songwriter from the ACT who writes songs in order to cope with experiences and feelings. For her it is “a source of therapy”. Lara crafts her lyrics with her raw emotions and likes to use metaphors to get the message of her songs across. She tends to leave cryptic messages in her lyrics that she believes only some people will understand, although she also thinks that many people will be able to connect with her music.
Lara’s songs are how she tells her story, with a determination in songwriting that stems from experiences that have shaped her. She aims to prove that she is somebody to the people who have made her feel otherwise. Lara believes that every single person has a story that is worth being heard, and that everyone deserves a chance to tell that story. She has been writing songs for over a year now and has discovered that is what she is determined to pursue.
Lara's first single 'Smoke' arose in despair of the Australian summer bushfires, and is a tribute to the heroes that fought and sacrificed to get us through it. As the events of 2020 have evolved, its has become and anthem for all the amazing men and women around the globe who are working to make the world a healthier, safer and more equitable place.
