Bio
Lonelyspeck is the project of Adelaide-based singer, songwriter, producer and visual artist Sione Teumohenga. Freely yet cohesively mixing eclectic styles, their distinctive sonic palette emphasises a morphing, hyperreal sense of space and texture while remaining grounded in a strong pop sensibility.
Meet the Adelaide producer behind the spacious and experimental soundscapes that's turning heads all over the country. Lonelyspeck's got big love for pop music, and says it's a driving force in their songwriting.
Tell us about your music. How did you develop your sound?
I guess it's just where I've naturally ended up from having a lot of different influences and being quite intuitive and open with making music. I listen to a lot of experimental styles of music but I also love pop music and I always want to find ways to use those experimental sounds in a pop framework.
What's your greatest source of inspiration for making music?
I think more than anything I just love sound. It affects me very deeply and feels very natural for me to express myself through it.
What can punters expect from a Lonelyspeck live show?
Probably to chill out and just have a nice emotionally vulnerable time I hope.
What's the best advice you've been given and who was it from?
I learnt from a couple of my teachers in art school to not be afraid of making mistakes or making a mess. And I've learnt from my friends and myself that softness and vulnerability are strength.
What Australian track would you play to cheer up someone who was crying?
Qwerty - Ano Yan
What Australian track would you play to someone to make them cry?
Hummingbird - Make A Space
You're the DJ at a party. The dance floor is pumping. What Australian track do you put on next?
Buoy - Clouds & Rain (Collarbones Remix)
What was the last local gig you went to? How was it?
Allume, Naomi Keyte and Water Bear. It was lovely! Allume and Naomi both made me almost cry, and I unfortunately missed Water Bear but I know she's great.
Tell us about the bands or people in the Adelaide music community that inspire you.
There are a lot... Allume and her other project Hummingbird (with Arthur Miles), Tracy Chen, Strict Face, Sebastian Vivian, PNK FME...
What are your plans for 2017?
I definitely want to play a couple of interstate shows in support of my EP 'Lave', which comes out on March 3. And I'm looking forward to getting straight back into writing new music because I've got a lot of ideas! I'm excited for this year and I want to make the most of everything that happens.

I'm so excited for what this new EP has to offer. It's been back to back gritty bangers from Lonelyspeck and I've loved every single one to the max.

In my opinion, this song is THE song from Sione’s forthcoming EP, the one that ties together their disparate influences and also allows them to do what their love show needs of them: rock the eff out. That final breakout just left my ears in strips.
