Bio

Thinking outside the band. Messing around with ideas, instruments and sounds and moving it sideways a bit. Solo or small ensemble, playing folk, blues that’s minimalist, earthy and poetic.

Look Mum No Bands is Steve Robinson, the songwriter from Wollongong on the east coast of Australia.

“The concept of an act called ‘Look Mum No Bands’ is an idea I started messing around with in 97 experimenting with different recording techniques. I can play a few instruments but I’m lousy at drums, so I thought I’d record an album without drums and call it ‘Look Mum No Drums’. Many years later, meeting Enya, her reaction to the name was to ask what I had against drummers. This threw me into the void of questioning what I was trying to achieve as a solo act and, what was I doing trying to recreate a band as one person anyway? Enya suggested ‘Look Mum No Bands’ and the mission to strip every song to its minimalist core began.”

Taking it back to the raw and vulnerable! Some days you just simple want to hear someone's heart on their sleeve and a guitar - on those days you need to listen to this.
