Bio

Madeline Leman & The Desert Swells will take you on a trip through 60s surf, 70s pop, and their unique brand of ‘Femmericana’ twang. Influenced by the women of the 60s and 70s, Madeline captivates audiences with stories of strong female protagonists who ramble their way through the mundane and the profound. Featuring lush vocal harmonies from goth pop superstar Ruby Jones, surf riffs from Fabian Hunter (Zoe Fox and The Rocket Clocks, China Beach) and soulful grooves from Sal Wonder on bass and Ben McAtamney (Masco Sound System) on drums, The Desert Swells create a unique sound that is hard to tie down but easy to love. Picture Nancy Sinatra, Dolly Parton, Carole King, Big Star and The Band hanging out on a beach talking about women's lib.

Off the back of their 2019 debut LP release 'Nobody's Fool', the band were featured at Out On The Weekend and Reservoir Stomp Festival. The second single from the album was added to high rotation on ABC country and the title track debuted at number 4 on the Amrap metro charts receiving lots of love from local community radio.

In 2020 the band focused on writing and recording. Locked in her bedroom Madeline focused on creating a fresh new direction for the band. In May 2021 they put out their new single 'This Is Living,' a summery track which represents a move away from the band's Americana roots and into a new nostalgic pop feel. The track debuted at number 1 on the Amrap metro charts and is setting the band up for a big year.
