Bio

Major Tom & The Atoms are an explosive rhythm'n'blues orchestra featuring Little Red's original baritone crooner, 'Major' Tom Hartney. After 6 years touring the world and beyond with Little Red, Major Tom returned to his roots and assembled a powerhouse sextet hell-bent on rockin’ blues and big bad jungle grooves. Major Tom & The Atoms take their cues and clues from The Rolling Stones, The Doors, The Black Keys and co... concocting an addictive brew of honky-tonk blues, howlin' growlin' jungle grooves with a shot of classic straight up rock’n’roll. In June 2012 they released their debut EP ‘Shake It Til You Break It’ recorded by Sydney producer Tony Buchen (Tim Finn, Phrase, John Butler Trio, Blue King Brown, Washington etc.). Garnering airplay on Triple J, PBS, RRR and community radio stations nationwide, it wasn’t long before atomic tunes were picked up for synchronisation by Mushroom Music and serviced to outlets including Neighbours, Kellogs Iron Man as well as Hamish & Andy's Euro Gap Year amongst others. Three national tours in support of the EP release and a relentless gigging work ethic have taken The Atoms to an incredible number of venues nationwide, as well as an impressive number of major support slots to boast, including legendary acts such as The Pretty Things (UK), The Black Sorrows, Vampire Weekend (USA), Mental As Anything, The Fearless Vampire Killers, Foals (UK), and King Cannons. Building on their bedrock of toe-tapping rhythm and blues, Major Tom & The Atoms have gone on to construct a towering and lasting monument to the fallen angels of rock with their debut album ‘Heroes, Villains, Boom Boom Boom!’. In ‘Heroes, Villains, Boom Boom Boom!’ Major Tom & The Atoms have delivered a debut album truly worthy of the band's talent and experience, exploding with Major Tom & The Atoms’ trademark live energy and boasts lashings of erudite and profound lyrics – it is a diverse and accomplished suite of songs painted in the comic-book colours of rock and roll. Self produced and a fully independent force, Major Tom & The Atoms continue to honor their promised deliverables... vibe, volume, groove and tone!

Finally, an excuse to use the term 'barn-burner'. That howling sax is unrelenting, commanding dudes in hats and girls in polka dots to twist and shake all night.
