“The blend of Les Paul bluesy guitar, violin riffs and three-part soprano and bass melodies made this act a joy to watch.”-http://themusic.com (WAM Saturday Spectacular 2016)
Luscious three-part harmonies and upbeat violin solos amalgamate and combine to create Belgrade’s signature sound. With varied influences from genres of folk to jazz with gypsy somewhere in between, the young Perth four piece deliver a unique brand of music.
Forming in mid 2015, the band has always focused on creating a fresh new sound and bringing something different to the Perth music scene. Since formation, the band have spread their sound throughout many venues in WA, highlights including The Bird, Mojos Bar Fremantle, The Rosemount Hotel and even the PICA Amphitheatre. They also played at Nannup Folk Festival 2017 in March and Fairbridge Festival shortly following in April.
After taking out the Rock Scholars “Band of the Year” award in 2015, Belgrade have moved on to winning prizes at the “Fairbridge Quest” songwriting competition in early 2016 as well as the Humandog “Battle of the Bands” and landing third place at the “Gozzy Rock” competition later in the year. These achievements have allowed them to delve into the world of recording with Michael Jelinek, Jeremy Segal and SoundLab Studios all contributing to both Belgrade’s singles and their debut EP, Fancy Couch.
The band released their first single “By your Side” in April 2016 along with a music video directed by Rob Bygott which now has over 8000 views. They released another music video accompanying their EP for titled track, Fancy Couch.
"The four-piece brought with them their unique take on indie pop, complete with gorgeous harmonies and liberal amounts of violin. Their music was compelling and a beautiful way to start the night. In other words, I give Belgrade an A grade." - Daniel Morey, Isolated Nation
They plan to keep playing gigs around the Perth area as well as spreading their music throughout the more rural areas of south-west Australia.
