Matilda Dods-Vocals & Guitar
Lana Del Rey, Marina and the Diamonds, Janis Joplin
At 16 years of age, Matilda Dods has a maturity in her songwriting that belies her age. And has created a genre entirely of her own, planted firmly between seashanty indie and sadcore pop. Her passion for telling stories through song can be at times poignant and at other times facetious. A true observer, Matilda's songs reflect her view of the world around her Her voice resonates with maturity well beyond her years, and she sings like a soul that has been here much longer than her body. She has a keen interest in the human mind and hopes to study sociology and musicology. Her songs are real, honest and raw; her voice rich and sincere. Matilda adores songwriting and music and her talent was recognized when she was selected to perform at the East Coast Blues & Roots Festival in 2011 and 2013. She also won the Mullum Music Festival youth mentorship competition in the category of Blues and Roots, which was mentored by the internationally renowned Mamma Kin, whom she later played support for in her Magicians Daughter tour. Matilda writes in a way completely unique to her own style, and is constantly working to improve and perfect her craft. She writes songs at break neck speed, dwelling on topics that every teenager and adult alike can relate to. She writes of the adversity of growing up, first love, love lost for the first time, lost innocence, and falling in and out of love with the world around her. Matilda describes herself as an eight year old and an eighty year old trapped inside the body of an adolescent. She is searching for new experiences, to learn and draw inspiration from.
