Bio

Matt Tonks is an acoustic artist who challenges preconceptions an audience might have of the label ‘singer songwriter’. Fluid melodies and entrancing rhythm combine in an organic approach to what could be called folk-electronica. A passionate and mesmerising performer, Matt’s live shows are an experience not to be missed. Unmistakable vocals and a unique guitar style breathe life into luminous songs. In a new twist to the live show, Matt has recently joined forces with musician & producer Syd Green (iOTA, Catbird, Dirty Lucy) who brings his laid back yet powerful magic to the live show on percussion and lap steel. Over the past 5 years, Matt has played to audiences throughout Australia, with artists such as Jeff Lang, Lior, Abby Dobson, Shane MacGowan (Pogues), Raoul Graf and Paul Greene, and is now establishing himself at the forefront of Australia’s acoustic movement. This period also saw 6 months playing over 50 shows during his 2nd tour of the UK. Matt's first solo album, ‘Synaesthesia’, was recently recorded and co-produced by Matt and Syd, with James Fletcher on bass & wurlitzer, in a farmhouse in the Southern Highlands of NSW. 'Synaesthesia' will be released mid 2006 through MGM and Plugging Holes Records.
