Bio

Matt Ward is forging his own space within the Australian music scene with an energetic and soulful blend of Australian alt country and Americana music.

His 2019 album "Heartland" reached #1 on the ARIA Australian Country charts and his four single releases have been highly successful releases receiving hundreds of thousands of downloads worldwide. Rhythms Magazine described Heartland as "world class" and the album “testament to Ward's ability to blend popular and alt country elements to produce convincingly heartfelt songs".

Ward recently showcased at Nashville’s Americanafest, backed it up with an Australian Music Week performance, played some of Tamworth’s best venues and was recently announced in the first line-up of artists for one of the biggest festivals on the Australian country and Americana circuit, Groundwater Country Music Festival.

In 2020 Ward will begin to release several singles from his next album, currently being recorded in Texas at the famous Yellow Dog Studios (Kasey Musgraves, Shakey Graves, Colter Wall).

Reflecting his growth as an artist, Ward’s new material and spirited live performance have a unique edge with serious country grooves and droning road songs - all the while drawing on his story telling strengths and catchy hooks that draw comparison to Steve Earle, Paul Kelly and Waylon Jennings.

Ward is ready for Australia's biggest stages and his journey to get there provides compelling authenticity as both an artist and person.
