I have been making music for years and had never put that extra thought into ever finishing a song. I started playing drums with my brother Mike Paxton and always jammed and made music for the moment.
I would record all the different sessions of jams with friends and now have a huge library of musical explorations.
In recent years I have started composing music on my own using samplers and synthesisers.
I have now finished an EP! Now that these are on paper.. I can share them and I can move on to the next adventure of sound and life.
This EP all started from one conversation.. My brother said, "why not make a song?". So instead of letting my loops play out and the music being endlessly changing.. I decided to lay down some audio and let it exist as a song. This was particularly releasing for me as I had been carrying the melody for "Defrag" for over a year.. every time i sat down on a piano.. I would just begin to play it.. or a variation at least.
"Homework" is an ironic title as it literally was like a practice exercise turned song. I actually started with something totally different and ended up making the song out of the bits that were an improvisation.
