Drummer for Montaigne (and many others!) picks up guitar and sings!

Hi there
thanks for checking out my new song "About The World" - EP on the way

I wanted to change the way i work on my sing song music.
I wanted to capture an event, and then augment that with overdubs, rather than piecing the initial "something" together track by track, a building block situation etc
This core of this was recorded live at my house, with me on acoustic and vocals, James Gillard on bass and Novak Manojlovic on piano.
One room, no headphones, lots of spill, a live performance - no editing was possible. it is one take!
I then overdubbed some drums, electric guitar and percussion on top of that performance, and then had Harry Sutherland play some keyboard parts.
The mighty Tony Buchen mixed it and then BIG RICKY mastered it
Lovely people, thanks for your contributions!

This song is about Luke Liang, and dedicated to Luke and Nick Weaver

BIO

Sydney Based Miles Thomas is one of Australia’s first call session musicians, from an orchestra, singer songwriter, jazz ensemble, modern improvised music, to a punk band.

This versatility has come from working in the studio from the age of 15, both as a studio drummer and a recording engineer. This ability to be “both sides of the glass” has given him an enormous amount of experience playing and tweaking sounds to get them “just right” for the given work.

He has performed and/or recorded with Montaigne, Lior & Nigel Westlake, Japanese Wallpaper, Clayton Thomas & Chris Abrahams, Ronan Keating, Clare Bowen, Timothy James Bowen, Peter Evans, Dale Barlow, Gerard Masters, Brett Hirst, Hamish Stuart, Bec Sandridge, and many many more, as well as the numerous film and television cues.

In addition to the session work, Miles also leads several of his own projects, with bands such as Lumberjack (piano trio), Lisathe (instrumental), his “Duets” series (improvised duets) as well as his own singer-songwriter project under his own name.

As well as production work for artists Ollie Thorpe, Ines, Dissolve, Actual Pudding and many others.

i'm driving through a sleepy country town contemplating the world and my place in it. this song comes on and boom - i now have a soundtrack that fits my mood to a tee. a meandering, organic piece of music from miles thomas.

This starts off at a pleasant amble but the last half really kicks up a puff of dust and dirt.
