Minor Premiers formed in 2017 in Brisbane’s inner-west and have wasted no time putting together their own brand of mid-fi indie-rock. It’s sometimes light, sometimes powerful and it’s kind of familiar. It’s diversity draws influence from their power-pop heroes Big Star and The Replacements, to classic indie, like Sonic Youth and The Go-Betweens.
Last year Minor Premiers teamed up with producer Wayne Connolly (Cloud Control, The Preatures etc.) to record a bunch of songs at The Shed in Brisbane (Violent Soho, Screamfeeder). These sessions were buoyed by the band’s frontman Luke receiving 2016’s Billy Thorpe Scholarship award for emerging QLD songwriters.
Minor Premiers’ previous singles Oh My My and Memphis managed to find their way onto a heap of Spotify’s most loved and popular indie rock & pop playlists. They landed the band a number of supports and festival slots, while both single launches sold out. With their new single Great Circle Line, together with their powerful live shows, continues to push Minor Premiers into the realm of independent artists that are turning heads in 2018.
