Bio

The project was created by solo composer and multi instrumentalist Kris Nelson during an overnight recording session in an old haunted hospital. The creepy building is situated in the sleepy coastal town of Albany, Western Australia and was an active hospital from 1897 to 1962. Stories of ghostly women and soldiers dressed in turn of the century attire are said to walk the halls, move objects and even slam doors and windows. "I wrote an recorded the song 'Mary' at about 3am in the main operating room, when I listened back to the 4-Track there was an extremely loud and chilling breath that totally drowns out my voice and guitar. Kinda freaked me out as I was the only one in the room at the time." Nelson explains. Blending the organic sounds of double bass, cello, arch top guitar and a two piece drum kit, the spooky upbeat music is then laced with Nelsons cynical yet moving lyrics. The sound falls somewhere between a horror movie score and a tortured pop song with a unique tongue in cheek quirkiness to it. Nelson's unique songwriting has been recognised by Western Australia's prestigious "WAM Song of the Year" panel in 2009, taking out his category and was nominated for 2 addition tracks in 2010. Since the release of their debut album “An Argument Between The Taste And The Feeling” Minute 36 have toured to Sydney, Melbourne and Adelaide. Recently receiving airplay on Triple J and being accepted to perform at Canadian Music Week in Toronto in 2012. The new 2013 EP "The Secret EP" is currently available for free download via the Minute 36 web pages!!

These guys have got some interesting influences going on. Their songs sound like they could explode at any point into a rage of rock, but they usually keep the tension going instead of heading to the obvious climax.
