Bio

“A deft flow, sharp lyrical danger and meticulous beat selection is MissGenius, the surprise flare in West Australian music. A First Nations hip hop MC and soul vocalist, MissGenius is a Maduwongga and Noongar woman who grew up in Broome and Perth, WA.
An artist who has written songs for herself since 2015, MissGenius uses music as a tool for strength and peace drawing from her life experiences, producing and recording her own material in her bedroom. Convinced to play her first live show in 2018 as part of a West Australian Music’s (WAM) Goldfields Esperance Touring Circuit in April, she has since released four tracks.
A previous public speaking and confidence coach for young indigenous women through the Goolarri Media program Goldfields Girl/Kimberley Girl, a mentor in the Kimberley region via her own expressive writing a program (From the Inside Out), and a previous AIME Mentor in the Goldfields region, MissGenius hasn’t always lived the lollipops and sunshine life. She shares her life experiences and overcoming those difficult times through these programs, and through her music.
There is a lot in the works for MissGenius, as well as recording her single that was released in November 2019, ‘I Don’t Wanna Be’ with RADA Studios legends Matt Gio and Dan Carroll. ‘I Don’t Wanna Be’ is a track that displays MissGenius’ profound vocal tone and addresses the internal turmoil many feel around normative societal expectations - “Sometimes I wanna be thick, but then I wanna be thin”. 'I Don't Wanna Be' has taken out the Song of the Year Award - presented by ACT-COMMIT-BELONG in the category of Outstanding Indigenous.

Since the end of 2018 MissGenius has made noise around WA, she performed at WAMFest Live (November 2018) and Bunuru Festival (January 2019) in Yagan Square, Briggs' Bad Apples (Perth Festival 2020), smashed her performance and won the Emerging Artist award at Nannup Festival 2020, and recently guest spoke at the Broome's Rehabilitation Family Centre (Milliya Rumurra Aboriginal Corporation), following this MissGenius' most recent live performance had drawn the audience and left them wanting more! RTR FM's 'In the Pines' was a good taste of MissGenius' hunger for the stage. It didn't stop there as she returned to the most popular music event, Nannup Music Festival 2021 and drew her crowds in with her amazing storytelling and demanding yet beautiful stage presence.
MissGenius' most recent achievement is winning 'Best Indigenous Act’ -  presented by Nannup Music Festival 2020 at the West Australian Music Awards.

MissGenius has so much more to come, keep your eyes peeled as she continues to take Australia by storm!

noname, Kaiit, WILLOW, Sampa the Great, Jamilla Woods, Solange are some of my favourite and most adored artists, and yes I'm placing you in with the same powerful, legendary women. This carries that same energy I love so much. Excited about you! Can't wait to hear more.

MG strips it back to this really intimate zone. It draws you in and keeps you still in that moment.
