Bio

There is an intoxicating interplay between the serene and the melancholic which underpins the music of Brisbane/Byron Bay 3 piece Moreton. Intrepid, gritty and dynamic, their sound borrows from the great troubadour tradition with earnest lyricism matched by an undeniably stirring voice, pitted against reverb drenched and hook laden guitar melodies and the minimalist triumph of the band’s rhythm section.

"In 'Johana,' Moreton channel the striking drama of The Drones, while the vocals stir up an eeriness that harks back to early PJ Harvey or Low." – Howl & Echoes

"This has such a seductive sense of drama that you’d be happily duped into thinking it was the wise Marianne Faithfull. Brisbane’s Moreton are steeped in some seriously sonorous alt-rock that is bound to soothe many." – 4ZZZ

"There’s a great slow burn to this first single of theirs “The Water”. It kind of sounds like you’re underwater, which I love." – triple j's Zan Rowe

"Masterfully melts hope and despair into single sentences, punching through the feet-dragged composition with lingering one-liners ("everything I've held on to, might not have the weight that I think")." – Rolling Stone Australia

“An utterly sublime, evocative, yet wholly tranquil experience; more a meandering, delayed sense of gratification than direct and instant relief — and all the more a pleasure to listen to for it.” – The Music

I already liked you, but seeing you live was such a revelation. This music seems simple but it's constructed to fill space, colour your surrounds and transport you somewhere else. It's this wave of sound that is all-encompassing and unlike any band around right now. Moreton are not to be underestimated.

Moreton supports me in Brisbane every time I play. One lyric that stood out to me in this was, 'That might not have the weight that I think'. She's talking about her own struggles and how on reflection, you might have thought something was heavier than it actually was.
