Neverkid (Shannon O'Brien) is a shorts and sneakers-wearing, 80s-obsessed indie/electronic pop artist from Brisbane.
Melding moody, alto vocals with energetic drum beats and bright-sounding synths, Neverkid’s punchy, retro sound takes influence from the likes Robyn, The Weeknd and Vera Blue.
In previous bands, Shannon has performed in a handful of Brisbane venues including the zoo, the Triffid, Black Bear Lodge, the University of Queensland Great Court, the Royal International Convention Centre, Eat Street Markets, the Jube and the Old Museum, having played gigs with Sports Fan, Playwrite, Dream Thieves, The Steele Syndicate, Youth Allowance and Interalia.
Neverkid has been songwriting, singing and playing piano from an early age and both records music in her home recording studio and works with local producers.
'When It Comes To You' is about being with someone and suddenly discovering that their true self isn't what you expected. The lyrics are laced with a few double meanings and landmarks from Brisbane's inner city.
"Normally I write songs when I'm in a sad or reflective mood, but this song came from a place of intensity and anger and I wanted the music video to exhibit that,
"Being my first release, I was also pretty keen to make sure it totally reflected me as an artist and as a person – so I'm in shorts and a t-shirt and not wearing much make-up. It's just me, in a trance, putting on a show."
