Bio

Nicole Brophy has a voice and style compared to the likes of PJ Harvey, Lucinda Williams & La Roux. Stylistically it fits somewhere between gritty rock, alt-country hoedowns and moody, bluesy numbers, all brought together by a raw charismatic rockin’ earthy voice and boundless energy. She has an undeniable presence on stage, always moving, engaging the crowd, playing acoustic or electric guitar and just driving her passion into her songs.

Growing up on the South Coast of NSW and travelling across Australia and overseas Nicole has performed to thousands at some of Australia's biggest music festivals as front woman of her previous band Dirty Lucy or as guitarist/backing vocalist for over 4 years in Kate Miller-Heidke’s touring band.
In previous band Dirty Lucy, their highly acclaimed debut album Dark Green was released in 2003 and the follow up mini album Music, People Cities, Lights & Darkness was released in 2006 while touring relentlessly to every corner of the country for over 5 years solid. Dirty Lucy performed at the Melbourne International Music & Blues Festival, Bluesfest, Byron Bay, Womadelaide, Festival of The Sun, Port Macquarie, Woodford Folk Festival, Peats Ridge Festival, Port Fairy Folk Festival, Apollo Bay Music Festival, Femme Funk Festival, New Caledonia, SXSW Austin, Texas, International Live Music Conference (ILMC) Shepherds Bush Empire, London, UK, & songwriting showcases in Nashville USA. Dirty Lucy opened for John Butler, The Waifs, The Whitlams, iOTA, Mia Dyson & many more.

Empty Tin is the much anticipated first single release from Nicole Brophy's latest album. With natural onstage charisma, bangin' guitar skills and come-hither-smokey vocals it's not hard to understand why she was kidnapped by Kate Miller Heidke's band for a few years! Lucky for us Nicole is now bottling that "whiskey soaked" voice into some darn tasty brew that deserves to be heard and shared. This catchy as hell single drives along with vintage guitar sounds and cheeky 60‘s backing vocals as it lays down the hard truth that comes from pure frustration. Empty Tin is a single that speaks to all that crave so much more from life...and love. The first single 'Empty Tin' from Nicole’s forthcoming album has received consistent airplay through Australian Community Radio & reached Number 5 on the AMRAP AirIt Regional Charts.

Recent festival performances include Splendour in The Grass, Byron Bay, Meatstock Festival (Sydney), BBQ & Blues Festival Port Macquarie & Bendigo Blues & Roots Festival.

Nicole is currently completing the finishing touches on her latest album recorded in a farmhouse in the Southern Highlands of NSW co-produced by Syd Green due for release in 2017.

"Nicole Brophy has a voice possessing everything that is good about country singing,
with the grunt and raunch of the great female rock tradition thrown in for good measure” Rolling Stone

"Nicole has a voice that fits somewhere between Ricki-Lee Jones, La Roux & Beth Orton.
Her Alannah Myles-style whiskey molasses voice simultaneously welcomes a crowd
with a bear hug and slaps a shot in front of them to signal the start of an adventure". Radar
