Bio

No Birds is the dub-cross-glitch brainchild of Justin McArthur, also known as Let's Be Modern (for his techno act) and is one third of post punk discotheque band Question Question. Justin himself has been performing since the early 90s in various house, techno and acid outfits, during which time he has shared the spotlight with the likes of Jeff Mills, Ben Sims, Derek May, Tobias Schmitt, David Bridie, Steve Bug, Mistress Barbara, Ian Pooley, DJ Misjah, D.A.V.E the Drummer, Speedy J and Chris Liebling. Originating in 2008 as a home studio project, it wasn't until 2012 that No Birds was brought to the public. Having been well received locally, No Birds has continued to perform throughout Adelaide from the Tin Can EP launch through to 2013, with the recent inclusion in local street press RIP IT UP MAGAZINE's 'Hot Six', a list of Adelaide's most promising emerging artists. Justin describes No Birds as a true reflection of himself, an effortless and free flowing method of composition inspired by his love of 70s dub, Afrobeat and Electronic Music. The result is a dark, post-apocalyptic soundscape of seemingly endless space - but feelings of hope and aspiration at the same time - perhaps No Birds is actually the sound of new beginnings, where the grief of disaster lingers but the optimism of the future shines through like a solitary flower in a greyscale environment…
