Bio
Known for mastering the art of heartfelt, vivid soundscapes with an electronic bent, Sydney-based producer Oliver Tank burst seemingly out of nowhere with his own brand of incredibly textural glitch pop with his debut EP Dreams in late 2011. He followed up with stunning sophomore EP, Slow Motion Music in late 2013, featuring collaborations with Ta-Ku, Hayden Calnin, as well as long-time friend and collaborator Fawn Myers. Followed by his album OT in 2017 Tank continued to develop his sound and hone his craft.
Now with 7 million cumulative streams under his belt. With rave reviews worldwide for his music, Tank’s rise was kicked off by winning FBi's Northern Lights competition, inclusion in triple j's “Next Crop” and nomination for FBi SMAC Award in the “Next Big Thing” category. He has also supported music luminaries Active Child, Youth Lagoon, Bonobo, Lana Del Rey, James Blake and Lorde as well as headline national tours and sets at The Great Escape, Liverpool Sound City and Falls Festival.
Oliver continued to make music behind the scenes in the last few years with writing credits on the recent JOY. single ‘Change’ and various other soundtrack and production work.
2019 see’s Tank returning to the scene with his upcoming release ‘The Ocean Fades into The Sky’. The body of work is a collection of music from over the last few years as Tank worked away privately on developing a sound that would help define him
Oliver Tank is a young Sydney-based producer and musician who is turning heads and melting hearts with his enchanting down-tempo electronica.
Tell us about your music. How did you develop your sound?
I set out to create something really original and unique with my music, and on top of that I try to give it a really personal feel. I developed my sound by listening to a lot of electronic artists. I feel like at the moment it is the genre with the most potential. I love the idea that electronic sounds and real instrument sounds can work together so harmoniously. Essentially that is what my music is about, different sounds organised to tell a story.
How do you translate your recordings to a live environment – what’s an Oliver Tank gig like?
My live show includes a laptop, sampler, vocals and guitar. The music is pretty chill but it lends itself well to an intimate live show,
Tell us about the bands, producers and people in the Sydney music community that inspire you.
As I was developing my sound electronic music was really taking off, I was always hearing new and exciting electronic artists and they were my biggest inspiration. Originally Seekae was a huge influence but now there is a huge community of similar musicians in Sydney that all make amazing music. The fact that there are so many talented artists out there is inspiration enough for me to keep bettering what I do.
What’s coming up for you in 2011?
I'll be releasing my EP in October which will have a bunch of new music on it. I'm also working on a mix-tape as well, which will include remix's, covers and much more. Other than that I'll just be playing gigs and working on new music.
Australian music is?
...Amazing. Its really liberating knowing that there is so much musical talent in Australia. I Can't wait to see what the future holds for Australian Music.
