Papperbok are a psychedelic rock band from Brisbane, Australia. Their sophomore album ‘Aubade’ is an attempt to create a truly psychedelic experience. Starting from a place of solipsistic teenage angst, the songs seesaw between agony and ecstasy, finally resolving in a blissful appreciation of the wonder of life. The intended effect of the album is to evoke a dream-like state, in which each step is logical, but the overall journey only makes sense after the last notes fade. ’Aubade’ is unashamedly ambitious, the product of 10 years of obsessive work, but has enough concise songs and pop hooks to keep the listener engaged throughout.
