The Barons Of Tang

Lead by the charismatic songwriter, vocalist and trumpet player Pat Marks, who composes hypnotic tracks that weave between the political anthems of hip hop, the feel good vibes of reggae and the smooth tones of soul and jazz, Pataphysics brings an ever changing feel to each song. Proficient on trumpet, bass, keys, MPC, guitar, drums, turntable, percussion, tabla, dolke, panpipes, melodica, spoons, freestyle and beatboxing, he is an evolutionary poet & subversive theorist, with insightful rhymes, in both the English and Sri Lankan language. Drawing on the bands cultural backgrounds of Sri Lanka, El salvador and Aotearoa, as well influences from the musical stylings of Miles Davis, Erykah Badu, and Public Enemy, Pataphysics have created a fresh new sound he likes to call ‘Soulful Guerilla Hip Hop’. Constantly building on their strong following for their energetic live shows- Pataphysics has played everywhere from major music festivals, to environmental protests. Pataphysics debut album, “Subversive”, was released independently in July 2012. Selected as album of the week on Melbourne’s PBS fm and receiving positive reviews from The Mercury, The Herald Sun, and many more, the Melbourne album launch was a massive success with a sold out, filled-beyond-capacity (300+) gig. Triple J

I saw Ms Badu as an influence. Yeah, sure I thought. But I hear that here! And I also hear an MC with plenty of feel.
