Bio

Pirra are a four-piece band now residing in Sydney, made up of Jess Beck, James McKendry and twin brothers Curtis and Jeffrey Argent. Their main instrumentation is vocals, guitar, bass and drums, although they also incorporate synthesizers and electronics.

They released their self-produced debut album ‘Animal Kingdom’ in 2017. The album received play on Triple j, Double J, ABC and various community radio stations. They have since toured extensively, supporting artists such as Mama Kin Spender, Bec Sandridge , Rackett and ELKI. They have played festivals such as Surry Hills Festival, Sydney Festival and Woodford Folk Festival. They were recently handpicked by The Rubens to perform live in the ‘Extra “Support Act” Campaign’, which is to be released in the coming months. They have received press exposure in the form of album reviews, Q&A’s and interviews from sites and magazines such BRAG, alt-media, laundry echo, local band smokeout.

The band members all grew up in rural areas including Bowraville, Taree and Mount Gambier, before moving to Sydney. Shortly after first meeting in 2008, they played together in various projects before eventually creating Pirra.

The band is fronted by Jess Beck, whom is a solo artist in her own right and was a 2017 PDA recipient. ‘Pirra’ means moon in Luritja, the name acknowledges Jess’ Luritja heritage, and was suggested by Sammy Butcher (Warumpi Band, Tjupi Band).

Pirra’s latest release is the 5 track EP ‘Rabbit Hole’, for which they worked with producer Nathan Sheehy (Dune Rats, Birds of Tokyo). The film clip for their latest single 'Get on Board' was featured on RAGE and MTV.

You're gonna need to see a doctor immediately because you've got yourself an earworm right here. Incredibly hard to get rid of but fortunately quite a pleasant experience.
