Bio

Sydney rock/pop outfit PLANET is the culmination of several years of trial and error in songcraft, performance and production. Matty Took (vox and rhythm), Tom Peppitt (lead guitar), Harrison Stewart-Weeks (drums) and Jimmy Weaver (bass) were first brought together by their shared love of music: old and new, foreign and domestic. Drawing influences from past and present the four-piece combine pop laden guitar hooks with soaring vocal melodies. The result is a sound which is reminiscent of Britpop but remains undeniably Australian.

PLANET's most recent efforts have been added to high rotation on Triple J Unearthed with singles ‘Undermine’ and ‘Can’t Connect’ receiving airplay on Dom Alessio’s “Home and Hosed” program on Triple J. The band's music has also reached the shores of the UK with ‘Can’t Connect’ receiving airplay on XFM’s “This Feeling.” PLANET’s digital footprint is also expanding, receiving 1,500+ monthly listeners on Spotify with 100,000+ streams for their single ‘Undermine’.

While PLANET remains, for the most part, a staunchly independent labour of love - all songs being recorded in Matty Took’s bedroom studio - the band employed producer Lachlan Mitchell (Jezebels, Little Bastard) to add his touch to their most recent singles as well as their upcoming debut EP. Dave Ruby Howe of Triple J has said of the band, “Every song feels like a step forward for them to the point now that they're 10 paces out in front.” Look to latest release ‘Aimless’ as an indication of what to expect from PLANET’s next offering which will demonstrate a rapidly developing sound, unique to this Sydney band.

PLANET haven’t confined themselves solely to the studio though. Having recently signed with booking agents New World Artists, the boys have been busy playing a string of dates all over the country. On top of their own headline shows and a number of festivals (FOTSUN, Lost Paradise, Party in the Paddock, Blurst of Times) the band have also toured nationally in support of UK giants James and homegrown indie rock mainstays British India.

Fans can catch the band on tour this October (2017) in support of their new single ACHING DREAM out now.

I love this dreamy Brit-pop vibe. The epic build on the track mixed with the whirling psychedelica and sweet vocal is enough to keep this spinning long after the first play.
