Caleb Jacobs’ solo project Plum returns with the first offering of 2018, ‘Cool 2 Start’.

After spending the majority of 2017 touring and writing as the guitarist in Sydney garage-rock outfit Julia Why? Caleb retreated to his studio and has emerged with the nostalgic pop track ‘Cool 2 Start’.

"It's about the beginning of a relationship. That moment when you realise something more profound is taking shape and you can only surrender. Even the most mundane happenings transport you back to those first dreamy encounters."

The track combines elements of his trademark shimmering guitars and heaving synths, with crisp, evolving production; evidence of Caleb’s life as a film composer.

“Writing music for film has been a gateway for me to experiment and develop my own personal work - I’ve always had an interest in electronic production, but writing ambient scores definitely lead me down a path that eventuated in me consuming more electronic than guitar music. It’s the repetitive nature that appeals to me; locking into a groove and making subtle changes here and there. I guess that’s what ended up happening on Cool 2 Start.”

Plum first popped up in 2015 with the acclaimed Black Doris EP, a collection of bedroom recordings, which were raw, melodic and sonically diverse.

“Black Doris feels like an important record.” Alex Gleeson – Ripe

“The EP is a stunning alt-pop gem awash with woozy guitars, progressive beats and carefully crafted song writing.” – Tonedeaf

‘Pavement’ received spins on Triple J and was included on European (Beko Disques) and US (Citrus City) label mix tapes.

The music video for lead single ‘TinyFeet’ was independent clip of the week on Rage and was dropped on MTV.

‘Reveal’ was included on Unearthed SXSW Sound Gallery Playlist.

All three singles received strong support from FBI radio, 2ser and other community stations across Australia.

'Cool 2 Start' is out now on Turktown Records.
