To Melbourne’s hip hop community, Raven started with regular visits to Melbourne’s 106.7 PBS FM back in the prime of The Formula, dropping rhymes on one of Australia’s most respected and long running hip hop radio shows. Raven hit the public eye as the producer and one of two emcees from Lost Soulz, a group he founded with Budsa and DJ Perplex. After honing their stage craft and lyricism in Victor...ia’s backyards and house parties, Lost Soulz released their highly regarded 2004 debut, Conveyor Belt, and contributed the anthem Sacrilege to the Nuffsaid Records compilation In Case You Didn’t Know. The group disbanded for personal reasons after offers to sign with both Nuffsaid and Unkut Recordings. Raven stepped into the solo arena alongside some of the most original and compelling rappers and producers in Australia representing the Hungry Humans Crew. Consisting of such heavyweights as Geelong’s Fatty Phew and long time accomplice Aetcix, the crew established a solid reputation and hosted a selection of quality releases from 04 to 07. After linking up with producer/emcee Geko in 2007 who formed the Crate Cartel label, the pair dropped the first release to bare the CC badge in the aptly titled We Are Animals EP as a precursor to Raven’s debut solo album Humble Beginnings in 2008. Both releases received critical acclaim Australia wide, showcasing Raven’s abilities on the mic with also his production prowess on show having handled over half the production on Humble Beginnings. After a hiatus to travel Raven returned in 2010 on Crate Cartel Records which had now cemented itself firmly as one of the premier labels in Australian Hip Hop with the addition of Fluent Form, Maund, Wik, Aetcix and multi tasker Discourse. The return came in the form of a sophomore full length titled Ravenous 20Ten. Combining traditional Hip-Hop with personal and politically charged topics, Ravenous 20Ten is a concept album where Raven observes two worlds; the world that immediately surrounds him and the world that surrounds us all. It is a journey through the different stages of adult life. The album and tour that followed in early 2011 has given Raven a firm grasp on the title of one of Australia’s finest lyricist’s.
