Music has always underpinned the friendship between vocalist Karen Rosenberg and guitarist David Blythe. In the early days they spent many evenings writing simple acoustic songs and playing covers before their other projects, travel, family, and their day-jobs led to them living in different states and even different countries for many years. Despite the distance the music connection was never really lost, and hope for a future collaboration was kept alive, hibernating perhaps in David’s home studio. The time has come for the collaboration to re-emerge and it has done so in the form of Red Aster, complete with a new and unique sound that reflects the darkness of their varied music influences. Red Aster’s debut EP has a sound all of its own, but Karen and David’s love for the ethereal sounds of PJ Harvey, the powerful sparsity of Adalita’s solo work, and the confident guitar of the alternative rock genre shines through in their music.
