Bio

Melbourne punk rock band As A Rival are set to tour Australia for the second time in 2016 after enjoying success on the road in New South Wales and South Australia, the first in celebration of their debut album released earlier this year. By Design was launched to a packed out Cherry Bar in Melbourne’s CBD and was enjoyed by interstate audiences across the country.

Prior to the album’s release, the band hired the services of Michael Conti on guitar. Conti has since been added permanently as the fourth member of the band, the second guitarist helping to complete the group’s massive live sound. From the band’s onslaught of surging riffs to its melodic crescendos, As A Rival have placed themselves on the Australian punk scene as one of the most hard-hitting, hard-working bands going around.

The band recently finished producing its third film clip, this time for the track Obsolete, a fan-favourite from their most recent release. The Obsolete tour will take place from the end of July until October to help support their release and follow up on their road success. As A Rival will also play two shows in Tasmania this time around. It marks their first time visiting Australia’s southernmost state. New material is also set to be a part of the band’s live sets on the upcoming tour, with a second album currently in the works.

In 2015, As A Rival returned to the studio to record their debut album, By Design. Recorded and co-produced by Tom Read (Bodyjar) and mixed by Grammy Award winning producer Adam Kasper (Foo Fighters, Queens of the Stone Age, Soundgarden), the album sees a maturity in songwriting, surpassing the promise and expectations built from previous releases. By Design boasts a myriad of guests including Grant Relf & Shane Wakker (Bodyjar), Rich Hall (Laser Brains) and Charlie Zulu (Darn Matter).

Adam Kasper has produced some of the most influential rock albums of the past twenty years and was blown away with the standard of the tracks presented by the band last year, his touch and experience taking the overall sound of the album to an even greater level.

The As A Rival juggernaut will roll out bigger and better than ever before with their Obsolete Spring tour across Australia.

This is solid stuff from As A Rival. Great big surging riff that doesn't let up for two and few minutes.

That huge guitar riff just smacks you in the face from the start and then it's on! For the Foo Fighters & QOTSA fans.
