In late 2005, Romi, a raspy voiced solo musician made the move to Sydney, where he discovered his passion for singing and songwriting. The Dubai-born artist, only 2 years ago never would have guessed that today he’d have an Album, and be travelling Australia with his guitar, and a suitcase with a built in kick drum and tambourine.
With influences such as Shakey Graves, Bon Iver and Matt Corby, Romi has developed his own unique sound with an alluring combination of folk, indie and heartfelt acoustic. The distinctive personality and ambience he brings to his performances draws crowds that cover the streets and often inspire listeners to break out in dance.
Romi's first performance was 6th of May 2014, after he decided to quit his teaching job and follow his passion. Tt was the best I have taken in his life.
he plays guitar, harmonica, sing and drum- all on his well- travelled signature suitcase/converted instrument (built in tambourine). He writes and play his own songs, he brings his own personality and feeling to his music. His style is a little bit folk, a little bit Indie: raw, heart-felt, acoustic. biggest influence is Shaky Graves.
Romi also plays mainstream indie rock and folk and hip-hop songs covers of by artists like Mumford, the Lumineers and Matt Corby, and good ol’ Jack Johnson. He enjoys turning fast songs to slow ones and slow ones to fast- adjusting the song and personalising it to fit the mood of the place and express his emotions.
