About

This is Joburg-born, Naarm-based songwriter & multi-instrumentalist Ruby Gill, who was four years old when two things happened: she was forced to learn the piano, and she found a cockatiel abandoned by its previous owners. These two moments shaped a life of song, migration and severe attachment issues - to much acclaim. Ruby flew straight to the top of Australia’s music scene when she landed in 2016, garnering millions of streams and radio play on every metro station, from triple j to KCRW. With arresting lyricism, effortless musicality and a strange and unforgettable honesty that (for some reason) Australians find very funny, Ruby’s songs have earned her the reputation of unmissable, with accolades such as “Emerging Artist of the Year” at Port Fairy Folk Festival and consistent reviews that echo triple j’s Zan Rowe: “excuse me while I scrape myself off the floor.” Her debut album is out 2.9 entitled "I'm gonna die with this frown on my face."
