Bio

"A huge call from me but I'll say this about Sam Carmody's music. I reckon he's carrying the torch of The Middle East. Deep and literate songwriting backed by these stirring and oft grand musical flourishes" - Dave Howe, Triple J

“Highest Highlight” is taken from the debut EP of WA novelist and songwriter, Sam Carmody. It is a song about grief and the strange euphoria found in memory; in the afterglow of a person.

The EP was recorded and co-produced by Dylan Ollivierre (The Money War) at his Fremantle studio.

Born in Geraldton, drawn to Perth and now based in Darwin, Sam Carmody has been active as a songwriter for several years across various projects. In 2012 he won a WAMi Song of the Year award for his work with Perth four-piece Warning Birds. In 2016 Carmody released his first novel 'The Windy Season' and was shortlisted for the Vogel’s Award - Australia’s most prestigious literary prize for young writers. In 2017 the novel won the Readings Prize for New Australian Fiction.

In support of the release of “Shadow in the Dream, Carmody will be performing at Darwin Festival supporting Tia Gostellow on Friday August 24th.

“The arrival of a powerful new Australian voice” – Corrine Hent, Courier Mail

Beautiful production. I hear the shimmer / those fine sweet strings, that guitar, your voice. It's to die for.

Polished and lyrical. I've been trying to lucid dream. If this is the Shadow in the Dream that's great by me
