Bio

Sam McGovern, a 21 year old singer songwriter and guitarist from Perth Western Australia was born and raised by a strong combination of music and the ocean. From a young age Sam had either a guitar in hand or a surfboard under his arm, these two hobbies therefore became second nature to him.

Now in his second year of studies at the prestigious Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts (WAAPA), Sam is exploring broader musical knowledge.

Sam approaches songwriting as a way of expressing feelings that come unspoken in his life, when words fail, music speaks. His stories are told through heartfelt and honest lyrics that unravel a deeper meaning.

Bursting into the Perth music scene, Sam has been playing shows all over the State attracting huge audiences. He has supported the likes of Jordy Maxwell, The Money War and played alongside many other well known acts. His Debut single "Grow" has recently been nominated for Western Australian Music (WAM) Song Of The Year 2021. Sam has also been featured on numerous radio stations such as ABC Radio, RTR FM and Boom Radio.

Sam's Debut Single "Grow" was written in the deep south of Western Australia in Denmark. "Grow" unravels the journey of accepting doubt and negative feelings, but staying true, knowing that someday in the future you'll feel yourself again.

It's a yes from me for that elegant acoustic strum that Sam's giving us here. Heartfelt but he doesn't overdo it either.
