Bio

Having just been announced to showcase for a second time at SXSW in 2020, Australian alt-pop artist San Mei announce her new single after wrapping a debut Australian headline tour. Produced in part by Scott Horscroft (Oh Mercy, Silverchair, Last Dinosaurs, The Presets) and Oscar Dawson (Holy Holy, Alex Lahey, Ali Barter, British India), ‘Love In The Dark’ is another step forward in the guitar-heavy, delay-ridden, dreamy pop world of San Mei and the wider Australian indie scene

Descending from San Mei’s personal experience, ‘Love In The Dark’ explores the idea of keeping something hidden inside as a result of anxiety that other people may not understand it or accept you - “For me, this is to do with my faith, explains San Mei, “I often struggle to have the confidence to even acknowledge my beliefs around others, especially in the music industry, out of fear that I might look foolish, outdated, or like an outsider. But I’m realising that having the courage to be transparent about something that forms part of your identity is really important.”

In light of her own story, San Mei hopes this song will encourage others to be open about their own identity and beliefs, “no matter what their ‘something’ is that they have felt they’ve needed to hide, I hope they can eventually find their own confidence to come out of the dark.”
Sparking the interest of tastemakers around the world in 2018 with her breakthrough single ‘Wonder’ which hit #1 on the Hype Machine chart, added to triple j, and cemented her in the Top most played unsigned artists and a showcase at BIGSOUND Festival 2018. This excitement was equally shared by the likes of Jack River, Middle Kids, Gang Of Youths, K.Flay, Stella Donnelly, and K.Flay who invited San Mei to support them at shows around the country

loving the woozy, chilled change up here replacing big shredding and mighty hooks with something more subtle and dreamy.

San Mei's one of the good ones! This new track finds her mixing that kind of Ali Barter-style intensity with the drama of a Jack River song. Pretty sure that adds up to 3 killer female bosses!

You're right. This certainly is something good. Fab fusion of rock, pop and dance. Perfect driving song too, I recon.
