Bio

SERF is the nom de guerre of Rory Maxwell, a Naarm (Melbourne, Australia) based multi-instrumentalist. Sonically planted somewhere on the spectrum between 80s counter culture and cheesy pop tunes, Rory pays feeble homage to his idols The Cure, New Order and Joy Division. Following the release of his debut album "All You Need In Life Is Someone To Love And Your Family", Rory continues to find solace in his chaotic studio, gearing up for multiple releases in 2021!

Trying not to rehash my last review and mention that band again. But you've really hit a sweet spot here, SERF. It's precise to your chosen aesthetic with all the parts working so harmoniously - from the hollow drums, to the Peter Hook-ian bass and the guitar that squirrels in and out of the track.

SERF out here sounding like Melbourne's answer to The Drums.

This track had me singing along to the harmonies from the first listen and it took me back to my memories of nakey swims in icy ocean water on balmy summer nights.

I love that you've leaned into creating this cheesy backing track too. You've created a proper homage to the 80's which makes me want to do a Jonathan Pierce (The Drums) inspired dance in my bedroom. I'm currently very far from a beach and warm weather so I'm appreciative of all the nostalgic vibes you've meshed together on this track.
