Bio

West Australian avant-folk darlings Simone and Girlfunkle are celebrating the launch of their new single “Gary Song" with a run of shows.

Friday 4th November, Courtyard Club Northbridge WAM festival w/ Verge Collection, Nervequakes
Thursday 16th November at Settlers Tavern, Margaret River

Friday 24th November, The Sewing Room Perth w/ Michael Savage, Darling and Joni in the Moon

“Gary Song” is inspired by the upbeat-meets-melancholy vibe of bands like Alvvays. It’s an ode to our dead best friends – our pets specifically, one very loving and loved, yet guitar-phobic feline: Gary.

The reverb washed vocal – and guitar-driven song sashays you through the ups and downs of heartbreaking loss: reflected through the joyful verses, loving choruses and melancholic bridge. You’ll be dreamy-eyed by the end, longing for more – like any fleeting moment spent with your own confidants.

Live, they're mesmerising: Pitch perfect three-part female harmonies deployed in service of a broad but uniformly gorgeous, joyous repertoire that runs the gamut from spare acoustic folk to euphoric six-piece Spectre-esque cacophony. Their reputation has seen them perform at St. Kilda Festival, State of the Art, Southbound, Channel Nine's The Weekend Today Show, Nannup Music Festival, Port City Folk Festival, and Fairbridge Folk Festival where "...the girls' flawless harmonies were a force to be reckoned with" (Lukas Murphy, theMusic.com.au). These performances enhance an already impressive live biography of shows alongside some of Australia’s finest: Holly Throsby, Wendy Matthews and All Our Exes Live in Texas.

Another sweet, melodic shot of pop. Catchy chorus, lovely organ sounds, great vocals. Best of all, sounds like you're having a ball. Good one guys.
