Unearthed artists we like
Formed in 2012, Sirenes is setting out to make a name for themselves in the local Adelaide circuit and the wider Australian music scene. Original members Penny Thompson (vocals), Chris Nutchey (bass) and Hayden Ryan (drums), have since been joined by Paul Norris (guitar) and more recently, Daniel Colagrossi (lead guitar). Hosting a tight knit, powerful and above all, formidable line up, Sirenes has been working hard behind the scenes to develop an entirely fresh and new repertoire of songs which captures the very musical roots which defines their sound and passion. “We have worked relentlessly on a new breed of songs, drawing on our diverse musical tastes to create a sound we feel best represents us,” Penny Thompson (vocals). “It has been a tough road at times, but one well worth it – What we’ve produced and what we continue to create is something we are proud of, and we’ll only get better and continue to push more boundaries,” Thompson said. In 2012, the band released an EP featuring four songs which were written and produced under a different guise, Viper Town. The first single on the EP 'Exhale', climbed to number 11 on the Triple J Unearthed rock charts. 2014 is likely to be a big year for Sirenes with a specific focus on a new EP, representing a new sound which is the result of hard work in the writing room. “Nowadays, studio work is so crucial for a band to identify themselves, try new ideas and really seek closure with songs – this is an important step in finalising our sound,” she said. With their catchy tunes, meaningful lyrics and focused attitude, Sirenes will be an act to watch in the year to come.
