In little over 12 months Skullcave and their unique brand of ‘doomgaze’ have established themselves in Western Australia with two critically acclaimed EPs, a national tour, national radio play and a slew of prestigious support slots.
In mid 2014, drummer and lead singer Liam Young, guitarist Jay Marriott and bassist Steven Turnock formed Skullcave, a three-piece ensemble blending elements of doom, shoegaze and post-metal.
In April 2015 Skullcave entered the studio to record their second EP ‘Climbing’ with sound engineers Adam Round (Tame Imapala, Forsora) and Jay Brandner, (Sleep, Earthless and Yob). The six-track EP was mastered by Brad Boatright at Audiosiege (Sleep, Yob, Code Orange) in Portland OR.
‘Climbing’ was premiered by Australian heavy music publication Life Is Noise, and selected as the local feature for the week on Perth’s premiere community radio station RTR FM.
“...Skullcave’s greatest strength: the marriage of gargantuan riffs with compelling world-class melodies.” - Life is Noise
“A really cool label-defying EP.” - Brad Boatright (Audiosiege Mastering [Sleep, Yob])
