Bio

Smoke Rings came to life during a (seriously) cold, cold, Canadian winter when Shane (Vocals/Guitar) and Lauren (Keyboard/Percussion) laid down some songs on a computer sitting dangerously close to a heater. The pair brought their tunes home to Australia, went to a rehearsal room with old friends Jon Wright (Guitar) and Elliott Weston (Bass), and after swiping right found now lifetime compadre Liam Gough (Drums).

Their sound, described as a unique take on 90s Britpop, took hold quickly and in 2016 they released their debut EP featuring single ‘Rose Coloured Glasses’. Their “raw, yet friendly” sound earned them accolades as a breakout band to watch out for with the single featuring on both Richard Kingsmill/Home and Hosed segments, key community radio nationwide, and rotation on Double J.

Recording new music with Malcolm Besley (City Calm Down/The Creases) and George Carpenter, Smoke Rings released a limited edition Double A Side record featuring new singles ‘Go to Hell’ and ‘Happiness’ to coincide with a national tour. ‘Camcorder’ is set for release this November, 2018.

Since then the band has been playing around every sticky floor in Melbourne, with shows including: St Kilda Festival / Northeast Party House / Ali Barter / Press Club / Moses Gunn Collective / Green Buzzard / The Courtneys / Good Boy

I don't really know how to explain this but listening to this song just makes me feel generally sentimental. Not sad, not happy... maybe just nostalgic? It's really hard to pin down.

This band don't write bad songs. Well. If they do I'm yet to see any evidence of it. Another reliable mix of jangle and buzz.
