Bio

Combining elements of house, jazz and disco, Australian artists Sonny Grin and Kats are set to release their third collaboration for this year, “You Know Somethin’”.

Featuring an infectious bass-line and tasteful synth melodies, the upbeat single is perfect for a sunny rooftop or midnight dance floor. Continuing on from previous releases “Lungs” and “Joy Dive/Night Drive”, “You Know Somethin’” is almost solely made up of live instrumentation. Utilising their combined prowess on keys, synthesisers, bass, electric guitar and percussion, Sonny Grin and Kats breathe a new, natural life into the house and dance genre.

Both working session musicians, Alec Brinsmead (Sonny Grin) and Casper Tromp (Kats), met playing in the backing band for Sydney RnB Pop singer Ange. The two quickly became friends and found a shared love for improvised music and electronic production. It seemed like the obvious next step to start producing and writing together, and with their combined home studio facilities, it wasn't long before collaborations came to fruition. Kats, who performs and produces in dance project Colour Castle, is no stranger to writing chart topping club hits, while Sonny Grin had a breakout year as a producer and live performer last year, and has continued this momentum into 2020.
