Bio

'Taking bleakness and making it blissful, Perth indie four-piece Spilt Cities are one of the city's most interesting bands, meticulously crafting their songs with intricate layers of rhythm, melody and narrative. Since first appearing in 2012 with the adventurous single Release (Narrow Escape), the band have evolved into truly gifted songwriters – spanning a huge musical and philosophical spectrum – culminating in their enthralling debut album: life, on hold.

Catchy, though beautifully sombre, life, on hold is filled with melancholic hooks. While some songs are upbeat and others down, there is an ever-present sense of yearning on the album that paints its mood completely. The result is an effortless glide... each song flows through itself and into the next seamlessly. It's not an album to get the party started, more so the kind of record you can immerse yourself in; basking in solitude and sadness, absorbing each heartfelt word and each reverb-laden riff.'

Passionate, swelling melancholy that is just so hard to switch off. That refrain is magnetic. You've got something to say, and I feel the need to listen.

Stoked I found this tonight! It drives some really wide lines on the way there but once it hits the straight its really quite evocative for me. Some super solid and well produced rock right here. Love the mood, love the voice.
