Hailing from the suburbs of Perth WA, Starcleaner were manifested from a constellation of alt rock influences of the 80s and 90s: post punk, indie rock, shoegaze and post rock. They coalesced from the rubble of post-grunge post-disillusionment in the early 21st century, searching for a new kind of aesthetic capable of combining everything from 60s psych-rock to disco and garage pop. Sometimes they reach for the angular roughness of Sonic Youth, at others times the washed-out wistfulness of My Bloody Valentine. Sometimes they like the deep yearning melancholy of Radiohead, but are also inspired by their funky rhythms. Maybe they make pop music for unpopular people, but they also know that the party is only rocked when you get the wallflowers excited. This is the sound of the teenbeat filtered through the millennial debris of a supernova; matter folding in on itself and becoming the vehicle of a new style, where matter and anti-matter are indistinguishable.
